Jessica’s House started in 2014 with a simple idea: people who need a small loan before payday deserve the same clear information as anyone walking into a bank. Twelve years later, that is still how we work.
What we do
We help Canadians apply for short-term payday loans from provincially licensed lenders, and we publish plain-language guides about how those loans work and what they cost. Ontario is our main service area, and licensed lenders accept applications through us in eight other provinces.
Why the name
A house is where you sort out the month’s bills at the kitchen table. We wanted a name that felt like that: practical, personal and on your side. The house in our logo has a J for a front door.
What we believe
The cost comes first
You should know what you will repay, in dollars, before you share any personal information.
Fewer loans is a good outcome
We point people to free credit counselling and cheaper options, even when it means they don’t borrow.
Licensed or nothing
We only work with lenders licensed in your province who follow its rules on cost, cancellation and collections.
Your data stays yours
We don’t sell personal information, and we tell you exactly who sees it.
How our content is written and reviewed
Our guides are written by our team and reviewed against the Criminal Code of Canada, provincial payday loan legislation and guidance from the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada. Each page shows the date it was last reviewed. When the law changes, as it did with the federal cost cap on January 1, 2025, we update every affected page.
If you spot an error, please tell us. We correct mistakes and note the change.
How we are paid
Using Jessica’s House is free for borrowers. We may be paid by lenders when we help arrange a loan. That never changes the maximum cost of your loan, which is set by law, and it does not affect the information in our guides.
